Iron Absorption From The Whole Diet: Comparison Of The Effect Of Two D :: essays research papers fc

Iron Absorption from the Whole Diet: Comparison of the Effect of Two Different Appropriations of Daily Calcium Intake Speculation - If a lady appropriates her day by day admission of calcium by having less of it in her lunch and supper dinners and more in her morning meal and night suppers, at that point this would diminish the inhibitory impacts calcium has on heme iron and nonheme iron ingestion. Foundation Information - This test is one of numerous that addresses calcium’s inhibitory effects on iron assimilation. In 1994, the Consensus Development Panel in Optimal Calcium Intake proposed an expansion of the current Recommended Dietary Allowances of calcium(Whiting, p.77). This objective of this expansion was to help in the avoidance of osteoporosis and other bone ailments. Lamentably, this endeavor at avoidance could have an unfavorable effect on the human body’s capacity to ingest iron.      Recent contemplates have demonstrated that eating an ordinary day by day stipend of calcium cuts iron assimilation by as much as 50-60%(Hallberg et al. p.118). Other contemplates analyze the effect of iron bioavailability on bleeding, pre- menopausal, and post-menopausal women(Rossander-Hulten et al and Gleerup et al). One of the feelings of dread of an expanded measure of calcium admission is the expanded probability of pallor in ladies who are as of now powerless to this condition. The iron restraint by calcium is a traditional case of how the adjustment of one nourishing issue can be the reason for another.      The physiological system of this calcium-iron relationship stays a puzzle, anyway there are two achievable speculations. One expresses that calcium seeks an iron restricting site on intestinal epithelial cells. It is accepted calcium ties to the protein mobilferrin on the epithelial cells, which is the iron vehicle protein(Whiting, p.78). Another gathering of researchers estimates that iron can be moved into the epithelial cells without issue, anyway the iron at that point experiences difficulty getting into the circulatory system. The nearness of calcium represses iron’s capacity to leave the epithelial layer.      Another intriguing hypothesis isn't on the tiny level yet in the transformative plane. Eaton et al. express that one opportunities for this marvel could lie in the Homo sapiens hereditary heritage. As meager as 200 quite a while back people had practically twofold the measure of calcium admission as they do in the present, since people developed in a high-calcium nourishing condition. With the diminishing in calcium, there has likewise been a huge reduction in physical activity(Eaton et al.). The inhibitory impact of calcium on iron assimilation could be identified with the low admissions of iron and calcium related to the present low-vitality lifestyle(Glerrup et al. p. 103). Terms - Extraneous radioisotopic iron tracer - Radioisotopes of iron (59Fe and 55Fe)

Quick 5-Minute Meditation for Effective Stress Relief

Quick 5-Minute Meditation for Effective Stress Relief Meditation Print A Quick and Simple 5-Minute Meditation Stress Relief for When Youre Short on Time By Elizabeth Scott, MS twitter Elizabeth Scott, MS, is a wellness coach specializing in stress management and quality of life, and the author of 8 Keys to Stress Management. Learn about our editorial policy Elizabeth Scott, MS Updated on February 02, 2020 Hero Images / Getty Images More in Self-Improvement Meditation Happiness Stress Management Spirituality Holistic Health Inspiration Brain Health Technology Relationships View All Meditation has many wonderful benefits for stress management.  One of the most valuable aspects of meditation is that it can build resilience over time,?? but it can also help one feel less stressed in minutes if used as a tool to simply relax your body and mind. It can also help you to get into the practice of responding to the challenges in your life from a more relaxed, mindful place rather than reacting to lifes challenges out of fear, and it can help you to get in the practice of letting go of grudges and redirecting yourself away from rumination.?? Despite the many benefits of meditation, it can be an intimidating practice to begin.  Perhaps surprisingly, many people don’t try meditation because they believe it’s difficult to practice  or only effective with regular, lengthy sessions. Not true! Meditation can be practiced in many ways, so there is bound to be a collection of techniques that resonate with each individual, and with each persons situation.   For example, if you are a bath person, a tub meditation may be the perfect thing for your next bath; chocolate lovers may greatly enjoy a chocolate meditation.  Those who like to move may prefer a walking meditation.   And while you can receive the biggest gains from meditation with frequent practice, just five minutes of meditation actually can bring quick stress relief. So if you only have five minutes for meditation, here’s how to make them count: Steps for a Quick Meditation Set aside time.  Set a timer for five minutes, so you can relax and not worry about staying in meditation for ‘too long’, missing appointments. (If you have an iPhone, the Healing Music application can be used as a timer, though the regular timer that comes with most phones can also be useful.)Relax your body.  Just close your eyes and relax. Take a few deep breaths from your diaphragm and release the tension in your body. Try to visualize the tension leaving your body from your head to your feet, either as imagining that the stress is literally draining from you through your toes, escaping your body with every breath, or simply melting away.Clear your mind.  When you work on clearing your mind of thoughts, rather than focusing on ‘thinking of nothing’, focus on ‘being’, and when thoughts enter your mind, gently acknowledge them and let them go, returning your focus to the present moment again.  If you focus on how well you are doing this, that becomes the focus.  If you accept that constantly bringing your mind back to the present moment  is  the meditation, it will be much easier to keep your mind still.Keep going.  Continue this for five minutes, and return to your day feeling more relaxed and refreshed. Simply focus on the sensations you are feeling in your body, focus on your breath, or focus on letting go. Try this meditation regularly, and you should feel less stressed overall. Tips Be sure you’re in a comfortable position; little nagging discomforts like scratchy clothes or an awkward sitting position can be a distraction from meditation.Don’t get too focused on whether or not you’re ‘doing it right’. (This can actually make meditation more stressful!) Thoughts may often enter your head; the process of redirecting your focus to the present moment is where the benefit comes.Playing meditation music or using aromatherapy can enhance your practice. They aren’t necessary, but they can add to your experience if you can conveniently incorporate them.Meditation has been used for both short-term calming (it can reverse your stress response pretty quickly) and long-term resilience (regular practice can help you become less reactive to stress), so frequent meditation is a wonderful and effective stress management tool. For best results, try to fit in longer meditation sessions (like 20 minutes or more) a few times per week. Then, you will be more practiced wit h meditation in general, and these 5-minute sessions will have more of an impact when you need them!

Atom Research Paper - 1677 Words

Atoms Atom is the fundamental building block of all stuff, or what scientists like to call matter. An individual atom is very small. In fact, the smallest type of atom, hydrogen, has a diameter of 10-8 cm. Every single object is composed of atoms. Our body is made up of many, many individual atoms. There are also many different types of atom. These different types are called elements. Examples of some elements are hydrogen, oxygen, and helium. Under normal conditions many atoms can stick together to form larger, different stuff. Scientists call material that results from the joining of different types of atoms compounds. Atoms are not the smallest things there but are made up of still smaller stuff. Also, atoms can be broken apart†¦show more content†¦At a later moment, they are struck more on another side and so change their direction of motion. Many scientists, who had previously resisted the notion of atoms because they could not be observed, were convinced by Einstein’ s explanation of Brownian motion. Now we have special microscopes capable of enabling us to see single atoms. A molecule may consist of two or more different kinds of atoms or may consist of one or more of the same kind if atom. For example, the two principal of gases of the air of our atmosphere are nitrogen and oxygen. Each molecule of gaseous nitrogen is composed of two atoms of nitrogen bound together by electrical forces, and likewise for gaseous oxygen. A rarer gas in our atmosphere is carbon dioxide, a molecule of which contains one atom of carbon and two atoms of oxygen. On the other hand, molecule of helium gas contains only one atom of helium. Atoms are bound together to form molecules by electrical forces. The composition of atoms Atoms are neutral as a whole, they consist of smaller particles that are electrically charged. If two atoms are far apart compared to the size of the atoms, each atom acts like an electrically neutral object because the effects of the positive and negative charges cancel each other out. However, if the atoms are close together, each feels the electrical forces from the charged constituents of the other because the positive andShow MoreRelatedAn Extraordinary Man From Demark920 Words   |  4 PagesOn October 7, 1885, an extraordinary man from Demark was born. Global Warming Is A Problem - 1381 Words

What is global warming? Global warming is the polar bears and penguins fighting for their lives because their home is melting. Global warming is seventy-degree weather in the middle of February. Global warming is the rapid increase in tropical storms. Global warming is the California drought. Global warming is the harmful wildfires occurring in our forests (NRDC). Many people, mostly politicians, believe that global warming is a problem that doesn’t exist. Global warming is a real issue that we cannot solve unless we all work together to fix it. The results of climate change are detrimental to the way we live our lives and the animals of the planet as well. If we as a species don’t acknowledge the problem, it cannot be resolved. The first major problem produced by global warming is deforestation. Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make land available for other uses (Live Science). Patches of land being destroyed each year are measured to b e the size of Panama (National Geographic). A lot of deforestation is caused by man themselves. Farmers cut down trees to make room for more crops and heat their homes and loggers build roads so they can get deeper and deeper into the forests. Deforestation’s biggest impact is the loss of many habitats. Seventy percent of all the animals and plants on earth reside in forests and they cannot survive without it (NG). Amazon has great policies set for the consumers with multiple low prices valuable material as well as Wal-Mart. Apple has a code of ethics that is set for all individuals that work for them. To more thoroughly detail these principles, Apple has drafted a code of business conduct that applies to all its operations, including those overseas†(Fund). Enron, Aig, and Fannie Mae Foundation are companies that did not always use ethical decision-making and therefore went under. â€Å"After 1992 Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were encouraged to purchase â€Å"affordable† mortgages from banks, which essentially meant mortgages that did not pass the usual creditworthiness requirement for loan†(Congleton, 2009). Management in Global Environment for Scientific Mechanisms

Question: Discuss about theManagement in Global Environment for Scientific Mechanisms. Answer: In the current time also, the concept of Taylorism will be accepted. This is due to the reason that number of potential workers in Australia, America and Europe is increasing at a rapid rate. Moreover, they are not equally skilled in nature. Thus, Taylorism will enable them to have more divided and unskilled jobs available. However, the form of Taylorism may get changed to what it was a century ago. This is due to the reason that, current business scenario is much more technologically advanced and more scientific mechanisms are being in use in the assembly lines (Stoller 2015). Thus, in the current time, the right combination of updated technology with the basic elements of Taylorism will be accepted by the workers. Taylorism is also being relevant in the script design of the call centers. This is due to the reason that script of the call centers is being designed considering different skill sets of the employees. For instance, the first level of the employees in the call centers will deal with the customers up to certain extent (Witzel and Warner 2015). Beyond that the call will get escalated to the upper level of employees. Thus, in this case also, the job is divided along with the proper use of the telecommunication technology. There are different regions around the world especially in the developing countries where huge number of unskilled or semi skilled employees are available. Initiation of the concept of Taylorism will help in employing this huge number of low skilled employees along with maintaining the organizational productivity (ONeill 2017). Having only technological advancements will not resolve the issue of unemployment, which can get solved with the help of Taylorism. Automobile organizations such as Tata motors from India and SAIC motors from China are having the issue of over loaded with employees. This is mainly due to the reason that these countries are having huge number of skilled and unskilled employees with having high rate of unemployment. Thus, in this case, initiation of the concept of Taylorism will help them to enhance their organizational productivity from the same number of employees. There is huge cost being involved in equipping the unskilled employees. On the other hand, the initiation of the Taylorism will help to divide the particular job in different unskilled forms, which will increase the productivity of the employees along with reducing the impact of overloading of human resources. In addition, these automobile companies from China and India are having outdated assembly lines as compared to the automobile industries from the first world countries. Thus, initiation of the concept of Taylorsim will ensure that with the effective blend of technology and human resources, issue of outdated assembly line can get solved. It can also be assumed that initiation of the Taylorism will have less issue related to the employees. This is due to the reason that having more unskilled jobs will required less training for the employees and also the employees will have fewer requirements and expectations from their jobs. Rhetorical Analysis of Douglass free essay sample

In the excerpt â€Å"Learning to Read and Write†, Frederick Douglass talks about his experiences in slavery living in his masters house and his struggle to learn how to read and write. Frederick Douglass was an African American social reformer, orator, writer, and statesman. Some of his other writings include â€Å"The Heroic Slave†, â€Å"My Bondage and My Freedom†, and â€Å"Life and Times of Frederick Douglass†. In this excerpt, Frederick Douglass uses an empathic tone, imagery, certain verb choice, contrast, and metaphors to inform African Americans of how important it is to learn to read and write and also to inform a white American audience of the evils of slavery. I find Frederick Douglass to be relatively persuasive in his argument to his intended audiences. We know that one of his intended audiences is African Americans because he consistently states things such as â€Å"I was compelled to resort to various stratagems† and â€Å"Thus, after a long, tedious effort for years, I finally succeeded in learning how to write†. We will write a custom essay sample on Rhetorical Analysis of Douglass or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page These sentences show us how difficult it was for him and states how he had to go through many trials to finally learn to be literately correct. By not giving up, he shows us how important he thinks it is for slaves to learn how to read and write. We also know that his other audience were white Americans because of his use of contrast. He describes how his mistress changed from being a nice, helpful, and loving woman to being a mean, evil spirited brute because of the simple fact of being a slave holder and her husband’s characteristics rubbing off on her. By stating â€Å"Slavery soon proved its ability to divest her of these heavenly qualities† he shows us how much of a negative effect slavery can be not only on African Americans, but also on white Americans. Frederick Douglass most likely chose this audience because many slaves probably did not know the extent of how important it was to read and write, or just didn’t know it was important at all. Frederick Douglass wanted slaves to be able to know what was happening in society and what was going on around them that their masters were not telling them. As far as the white audience goes, he likely chose this audience to make slave owners and non-slave owners look at slavery a different way. The way he portrays slavery in my eyes is almost as a force that turned this woman (his mistress) into something that she is not. It makes slavery look like a disease spread on white Americans that makes them horrible people. Another audience that might be included are poor white children and/or teenagers. Throughout the excerpt, Douglass explains how he would use the poor white children as instructors to teach him how to read and write in exchange for food. In the excerpt he writes â€Å"Have not I as good a right to be free as you have? These words used to trouble them; they would express for me the liveliest sympathy†¦Ã¢â‚¬ He could have chosen this audience because he knows that the children hold the future. This would be his way of convincing the younger kids to look down upon slavery. That could change the lives of African Americans forever. There could be a number of different audiences that Frederick Douglass was referring to, but the least likely would be extremely racist slave owners. Racist slave owners probably wouldn’t even pick up something an African American wrote, let alone care what he had to say. The Logos in this excerpt has a structure of Frederick Douglass’s events going in chronological order. He opens this excerpt by telling how long he lived at his master’s house. He then goes on to describe how his mistress changed from a nice lady to a mean-spirited one. He explains how her doing so made it hard for him to read because she would always get angry whenever she would see him holding a book. He then describes how he would become friends with the poor white kids so that they would help him learn how to read. Once he has learned to read, he starts to understand more of what is going on around him and he doesn’t like it. He begins to envy the ignorance of his fellow slaves. He meets two white men who encourage him to run away to the north to be free. Frederick considers it, but he wants to learn how to write first. He concludes this excerpt by describing how he learned to write by being in a ship-yard and also by daring the white kids that he knew more letters than them, tricking them into teaching him more letters. There wasn’t any flashbacks or foreshadowing in this excerpt. He went from beginning to end. If Frederick Douglass did decide to use any literary time elements such as foreshadowing and flashbacks, it could have made this excerpt a bit more interesting. Although, the chronological order did just fine. Frederick Douglass’s main claim to his argument of the importance of slaves learning how to read and write is the fact that without that knowledge, slaves would just remain ignorant to the things happening around him. They would have to rely on other people’s words instead of their own. With slaves being ignorant to their surroundings, it would be impossible for them to grow or to reach freedom. Frederick Douglass has an automatic appeal of credibility since this is an excerpt from his a narrative of his own life. Frederick Douglass also establishes Ethos when he started to think logically by learning to read. The more he learned, the more he was building his character to get what he wanted. He also builds character by choosing not to run away when the white men told him too. He knew there was a chance of them tricking him to run away just so they can catch him and get an award. He decided to take the opportunity to learn to write before he would run away. His character can also be determined by the title and even the first sentence of the story. â€Å"I lived in Master Hugh’s family about seven years. † This shows that he is just like any other slave even though he found a way to educate himself. This grabs the attention of his audiences and makes him as an author credible and trustworthy. Frederick Douglass appeals to Pathos in this excerpt. Because this is a true story, all the hardships his mistress put him through and all the trouble he had to go through and endure just to learn to read and write, give off real emotions. The fact that this really happened to him has more of an effect on his audience than if this was fiction. We see Douglass saying that he regrets his own existence and he wished himself dead. This makes the audience feel extremely sad and sorry for him. One way that Frederick Douglass uses pathos to persuade his audience is by him stating how bad he felt once he did learn how to read and write and how he envied the people who couldn’t. One would think that by him saying that would push someone to not want to learn to read, but it is the reason he feels this way that would persuade them. The reason he feels this way is because now he knows things that he’s never known and he knows how bad things are for slaves. That would persuade someone to want to know as much information as he does. He also establishes Kairos in this excerpt because of the fact that with only a few modifications, this same story could have been writing in modern times. Although slavery is not legal in America, it is in some parts of the world. There’s also illegal slavery in America such as human trafficking. It could be the same story of a person being trafficked trying to learn to read and  write, another language maybe, in order to escape. It also could be told in ancient times with the slaves in Egypt. That’s just a few examples of how this excerpt could be told in multiple time periods. In this excerpt â€Å"Learning to Read and Write† we see how Frederick Douglass used rhetoric devices Logos, Pathos, Ethos, and Kairos. Also we see how he used different literary elements to establish those. Frederick Douglass effectively persuaded his audience of African Americans and white Americans to show the importance of learning to read and write and to inform how evil slavery really was.

Critical Essay on Cathedral by Raymond Carver

Critical Essay on Cathedral by Raymond Carver Critical Essay on Cathedral by Raymond Carver A first glance of Carver’s Cathedral gives one the impression that a religious theme is involved in the story. However, this perception is far from the actual content of the story. For instance, no cathedrals are mentioned until in the story’s third section. Even when a cathedral is introduced into the story, it is clear that no single character is actively religious. From this, one can argue that the title does not fit this particular story. Furthermore, the narrator in Carver’s story uses a conspiratorial tone to present his thoughts and experiences. To the reader, the story appears as if the narrator merely talks to the reader, not to pass any vital message, but rather to keep the reader amused. Additionally, from the narrator’s tone, one gets the feeling that the narrator is attempting to relate certain happenings in terms that are clear as well as precise. In recounting his feelings, the narrator does not get emotional or attempt to persuade the reader to develop a liking for him. A further implication from the narrator’s tone is that the story is about relating the incidents from a particular time, without influencing the reader’s feelings concerning the incidents. However, the reader can detect some sincerity in the narrator’s tone. The narrator does not attempt to hide the desperate situation he is in, nor does he attempt to deceive the reader into thinking that he is highly opti mistic about recovering from what befalls him. Thirdly, Carver’s story has a simple conclusion that leaves the reader highly intrigued. Although the ending is in one way or another predictable, it, nonetheless, gives the reader something to meditate upon long after finishing the story. The reader is left in suspense concerning whether the narrator’s feelings will endure, or whether his and Robert’s relationship will continue after the ending of the story. Furthermore, the reader is left to guess whether there will be significant improvements in the narrator’s bond with his spouse. There is nothing wrong with this suspense, though, since it helps to promote the idea of an intriguing story. The story’s most important theme is to savor the beauty of the moment. In addition to this, other elements in Carver’s story are perfect, such as the plot, setting, and the narrator’s point of view. Tips on critical essay writing: Critical essays are very interesting both to read and to write. Specifically, when critiquing the work of another person, it is unacceptable to solely concentrate on the negative aspects of the literary piece. It is impossible that a published work will to adhere to all the desired features of written work. For this reason, the writer should include a combination of the praiseworthy aspects and the deficient ones when discussing a work. Critical comments must be based on authentic evidence from the literary piece and from other resources as well. The second tip to writing good critical essays is to incorporate one’s own insight or original thoughts so that the reader will find the article interesting.

Management strategies Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Management strategies - Assignment Example The competitive forces that shape strategies ensure that the strategy stays in power. Competitive forces mold strategies to effectiveness and as such the strategy stays in power. According to Porter (2008), there are five forces that shape strategies. These forces determine the profitability of an industry in the long run by influencing how the economic value it creates is apportioned. These forces are supplier power, buyer power, competitive rivalry, the threat of substitution and the threat of new entry. Supplier power can determine the profitability of a company. Suppliers are the providers of raw materials, labor or other materials used in production. Suppliers have the power to drive up the prices of the inputs used in production. When the suppliers raise the prices of the inputs used in production, the company ends up having high production costs and this, in turn, reduces profit. The fewer the suppliers a company has, the more the power they have on the company and the more th ey determine the profitability of the business. The buyers are the consumers of a company’s product. The buyer has the power to determine the profitability of a company because they influence sales. When the buyers cease from consuming a company’s products sales will be low hence low profits. Buyers also have the power to determine the prices of a product. When a company deals with few powerful buyers, they have the power to dictate various terms of doing business such as the prices of the product.

Computer and Network Hardware Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 2

Computer and Network Hardware - Assignment Example Protocols like POP3, IMAP, LDAP and HTTP services use DNS to avoid IP conflicts on the networks. Hardware (Physical) address is the unique hexadecimal serial number assigned to each Ethernet network device. The address is permanently set at the time of manufacture and cannot be changed. It is unique to help distinguish among devices. The hardware addresses are exactly 6 bytes in length, and are usually written in hexadecimal as 12:34:56:78:90:AB. The first six digits identify manufacturer while the last six is the serial number of the card. Each manufacturer of Ethernet devices applies for a certain range of hardware addresses they can use. DHCP failover occurs when using DHCP redundancy. With two DHCP servers serving different scopes, for example .100-.150 on one and .200-.250 on the other, challenges pursue. In the case one server fails, all clients that received a lease from that server, will have to get a new IP from the other server. That basically means all network connections on the client will be lost and causing a danger unlike no redundancy. DHCP availability is crucial. The existing of network is dependent on the DHCP availability, since it is the basic point of assigning TCP/IP configuration. If it fails or breaks down the network communication is lost. That indicates that DHCP has to be available throughout. Subnetting addresses hardware performance issues. Using subnetting reduces CPU overload. The servers will have increased processing power and available. The network hardware like routers and other devices that handle data traffic are also optimized. The bandwidth is available to network devices for their effective performance. To communicate, computers on LAN are interconnected using a switch. The switch is then connected to a router that links LAN to an external network, internet. To access internet through a single computer, you can either configure one PC as an ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) or

The Orems And Roys Model Nursing Essay

The Orems And Roys Model Nursing Essay The purpose of the nursing theories is to provide an interrelating framework focusing on the nursing practice. The defined nursing theories promote better patient care, improve the status of nursing profession, and improve the communication between the nurses, and provide guidance to the researches and education (Keefe, 2011). Not all nursing theories have the same meanings; however, they play the important role of explaining the key concepts and principles of nursing practice in understanding way. Dorothy Orems Self-Care Deficit Theory and Sister Callista Roys Adaptation Model are considered as grand nursing theories. The grand nursing theories are a conceptual model, which identifies the focal point of nursing inquiry and guide the development of mid-range theories that will become useful to nurses and also to other health professionals. According to Walker and Avant (2011), these theories contributed in conceptually sorting the nursing from the practice of medicine by demonstrating the presence of distinct nursing perspectives. This easy furnishes a comparison and contrast of Orems Self Care Deficit Nursing Theory with Sisters Callista Roys Adaptation Model in their importance to clinical practice. Roy put forward her theory of nursing in response to motivation of her mentor Dorothy E. Johnson. After doing B.A. in nursing, she did her masters and PhD in sociology which has an impact of her theory of nursing. In her concepts, Persons are viewed as living adaptive systems whose behaviors may be classified as adaptive responses or ineffective responses. These behaviors are due to internal and external stimuli and derived from regulator and cognitive mechanism. Her Model provides the framework for nurses by viewing the adaptability of patients to internal and external stimuli in their environments (Alligood Tomey, 2006.). Nurses work towards achievement of adaptive response by four adaptive modes; Physical, Group Identity, Role Function, and interdependence. Nurses incorporate four modes by utilizing informati on about the person, adaptive level and various stimuli. By doing so, nurses manipulate these stimuli to promote adaptive responses and process of health by meeting the goal of survival, growth, reproduction and mastery. Dorothy Orems suggests that each person has a need for self care in order to maintain optimal health and wellness. Each person possesses the ability and responsibility for care for themselves. According to Orem, nursing becomes necessary when an individual can no longer care for him or herself. Nursing provides care through acting, guiding, supporting, teaching, and environmental manipulation promoting personal development. Orem developed this theory from her experience and personal connection with the Vincentian-Louisiana nursing tradition of the Daughters of Charity (Libster, 2008.) Metaparadigm for analysis The metaparadigm for nursing is the concepts that define the nursing practice. Since 1970s, person, nursing, health, and environment are considered as the core concepts of nursing theories by many nursing theorists. Person According to Orem, a person is made of a physical, psychological, and social character with variable degrees of self-care ability (Dorothea Orems Self, 2011.).Orem described the person as able to appraise situations, reflect upon them, and reason and understand them. Based on this description, the person deliberately chooses to perform specific action, something he or she can do even in the face of internal and external pressure to the contrary. She further explains that actions are goal directed; that is, undertaken to achieve valued outcomes (Orem, 1980). This view of the person as self-determined, action oriented, and goal directed is captured in Orems portrayal of the person as agent or as having agency. In view of Whall and Fitzpatrick (2005) Orem challenged, to some extent, the more prevalent view of nursing that the person is an adaptive system and can be understood as adapting to his or her environment. Roy views a person as an adaptive system that responds to internal and external stimuli in their environments (Alligood Tomey, 2010). Within the adaptive model, person is described as an adaptive system, a whole made of parts that adapts to changes in the environment and also affects the environment. The mechanistic view of person is inconsistent with the holistic view espoused by Roy. However, Roy has stated that the focus on parts is only for descriptive purpose and that the model is based on a holistic view espoused by Roy. However, Roy has mentioned that the focus on parts is only for descriptive purpose. Nursing Orem and Roy have the different attitude toward the concept of nursing. Orem sees nursing as an intervention to meet the daily needs for self-care and medical-care patients need (Dorothea Orems Self, 2011). Nursing when defined in terms of focus (for knowledge and practice), is a specialized health care service necessitated by an individuals inability to maintain the amount and quality of self -care that is therapeutic in sustaining life and health, in recognizing disease from injury or in coping with their effects. Nurses create a Nursing-System as helping system in which the method of helping is determined by the degree to which the patient is able to accomplish his or her self-care requirements as explained by Whall and Fitzpatrick (2005, p 113). Roy believes nursing as a key player to help patients to develop coping mechanism and positive outcome from the constant stimuli exposure. Roys goal is for the patient to achieve adaptation leading to optimum health, well-being, quality of life, and death with dignity, and finding in life by participating in their own care (Andrews Roy, 1999.).Two aspects of nursing are unique to the model: the two-level assessment in the nursing process and intervention as management of stimuli. The two-level assessment provides for the evaluation of the patients behavior (response) and the stimuli to which the person is responding. This notion is appropriate to the model that it focuses on person responding to stimuli. Nursing enhances adaptation through the use of nursing process, thereby promoting health through the management of stimuli or the strengthening of coping process (Andrews Roy). Health Orem defines health as physical, mental and social well being (Dorothea Orems Self, 2011.). It adds to the complexity of Orems conceptualization that health is presented as an outcome of self-care and as one of the numerous factors that influence self-car agency and self-care demand. To clarify a person in a poor state of health is likely to have diminished self- care agency that add to persons self-care demand. Roy views health as a method used by patients to obtain their utmost possible health, regardless of the presence or absence of disease. Health is a state and a process of being and becoming an integrated and whole person. It can be viewed as a reflection of the interaction or adaptation of human adaptive systems within a changing environment as elaborated by Whall and Fitzpatrick (2005, p 148). Environment Orem and Roy both state the individual exists in an environment. Orem sees the environment in two dimensions, the physical, chemical, biologic features and socioeconomic features, which influence the self-care requirements of the individual (Dorothea Orems Self, 2011.) According to Roy, the environment consists of stimuli including conditions, circumstances, and influences surrounding an individual, whether focal, contextual, or residual. Analysis for Use in Practice Orems Self-Care Deficit Theory and Roys Adaptation Model can be applied to groups or individuals, and used at any nursing settings. However, Orems Self-Care Deficit Theory is more recommended for the acute-care setting, where a patient receives active but short-term treatment for a severe injury or episode of illness. Orem focuses on finding the self-care deficit of the patient and providing the necessary care to promote his or her well-being. Whereas, Roy is concerned with the different stimuli that forces adaptation in order to achieve optimal health. A nursing model provides the structure to guide practice by providing direction for the nursing process. The adaptation model provides this direction based on its well developed guidelines for the use of nursing process. Simultaneous assessment of the behavior and stimuli leads to the identification of nursing diagnosis and the establishment of goal. The model provides the framework for intervention, which is focused on the management of the stimuli and management of the adaptive processes. Evaluation assesses the effectiveness of the intervention by examining the behavior. Roys Adaptation Model views the person as an adaptive system which includes the four adaptive modes. These adaptive modes are: physiological-physical mode, self-concept-group identity mode, role function mode, and interdependence mode. Although first two modes can be identified immediately, the assessment of role function mode and interdependence mode is time consuming. It depicts that Roys adaptation model is more suitable for chronic care settings. However, usefulness of the adaptation model in practice has been demonstrated in a variety of settings with diverse population (Alligood Martha, 2010). Furthermore, the expansion of the model offers a framework for systematic healthcare delivery to aggregate, making it more amenable to community health nursing (2010). The holistic approach of the model helps prevent putting too much emphasis on aspects of illness and allows for the inclusion of health promotion. It all adds in to the efficiency of the model in effectiveness of working on the nursing process and better patient outcome. Along with its usefulness the holistic assessment based on the model can be a lengthy and time consuming process. This concern has been found to be most problematic in intensive care units where there are rapid changes in patient condition and least problematic in long term care settings of the hospitals or health care organizations (Weiss et al., 1994). The adaptation model goes with the classification furnished by the American Nursing Association (ANA); that is, North America Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), that focus on the component of nursing process. The adaptation model incorporates the specific interventions and outcomes for the specific diagnoses (Wilkinson, 2000.). This adaptation model is more suitable to clinical practice by provision of the framework for the nurses to rehearse the art of nursing process explained in the model. It is clear from the above discussion that nursing theories promotes better patient care, bring positive impact on nursing practice and improves the overall nursing standard. Along with the directing the nurses to utilize evidenced based and well thought process of care, nursing theories guide in developing nursing educational programs, nursing administration and research pertaining to nursing profession. Many organizations now exist to support the advancement of nursing profession. Sigma Theta Tau International, the Honor Society of Nursing, is created to support the learning, knowledge and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide (STTI Organizational, 2011.). It also worth mentioning that the two described models have professional organizations that have as their purpose to support and develop further in the models. International Orem Society promote the advancement of nursing science and provide scholarship in the area of Orems Theory of Self-Care Deficit Nursing to lead to further advancement of knowledge for the discipline of nursing (International Orem, 2011.) The Roy Adaptation Association (RAA) is a society of nursing scholars who want to advance nursing practice by developing basic and clinical nursing knowledge based on the Roy Adaptation Model (Roy Adaptation, 2011.) These organizations along with progression of the nursing the ories will promote the advancement of nursing science and enhance the nursing profession.

A Vast Improvement in Oneself

Many students today ask why they are so tired all the time. It also seems that people in college become more stressed out either because of grades or because of work. All people need to do is get the right amount of sleep, eating well, and exercise in order to feel better about themselves and feel good in general. This is not a short process. Most experts say that it takes about twelve weeks in order to see results. But, it is guaranteed that after that duration of time one will see a vast improvement in oneself. Sleep is something that most people take for granted. It is the one thing that people are willing to compromise even more then food or money. It is estimated that between 40 to 60 million Americans are sleep deprived. Different people can get by with different amounts of sleep. There are some that can survive the next day with only a few hours. Then there are always others who cannot be called after 9:00 because they need those good solid 10 hours. The average person actually needs anywhere from between 7-9 hours a night. Why does one need sleep? When human bodies do not get enough sleep they tend to lose strength, the immune system decreases, and there is an increase in blood pressure. As students, it can effect concentration, memory, logical reasoning, and ability to do math. Now that the problem is known here is how to fix it. Dr. Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia, focuses on consistency. The body needs consistency. This can be fulfilled by simply going to bed at the same time every night and waking up at the same time every day. But, it is important to note that making up for lost sleep on the weekends is a big negative. It is preferable that if one likes to sleep on the weekends wake up at the same time Saturday and Sunday. When going to bed it should take about 15 to 20 minutes to fall asleep. If a half-hour has gone by and one still is not asleep one should get up and do something relaxing (i. e. take a warm bath, read, watch TV, etc. ). Rita Mattson, a Certified Personal Trainer and Stress Management Counselor, makes the suggestion of drinking warm milk before retiring to bed because milk contains a high dosage of L-tryptophan which is a natural sedative. Sleep is just as important as any other part of taking good care of ones self. Another key aspect is nutrition. Nutrition is the main thing that keeps the body working. So, if one wants to keep the body working at a certain pace it needs to be fed. But, one needs to know the right foods. Think of the body as a car. People drive cars every day and some people are fast drivers who like to go above the speed limit and others are slower. Nevertheless, all cars need gas sooner or later. So, the owner of the car takes the car to the gas station and now he needs to make a decision on which type of gas to put into the car. He knows that he cannot use diesel because his car cannot run on diesel gas. The choices are now unleaded, super unleaded, or supreme unleaded. Every car driver knows that the better quality of the gas the better the car drives and performs. Bodies are the same way. Know not to use â€Å"diesel. † But, when it comes to the other â€Å"gases† one has to think what does the â€Å"car† need to perform its best. For that reason, there is the nutrition pyramid to tell us what our bodies need the most and the least of. It is important to incorporate refined carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables, and fruit to ones diet everyday to ensure that the body works. The body also needs some sugar and fat. Today, people focus on â€Å"non-fat† foods. Sometimes these are not good for the body because in order to make something natural fat-free you have to put in chemicals to alter the original make up of the food. Chemicals are difficult for you body to digest therefore in a case like this it is best to go natural. Another reason that one needs to eat some fat and sugar is because this is what the body burns when you exercise. Exercise is what â€Å"separates the boys from the men. † In other words this is the number one thing that must be done to maintain a healthy body. First, one needs to know their body and what their body can endure. That depends on age, weight, and current level of fitness. The last factor determines how fast ones body burns fat. Second, figure the basal metabolism rate (BMR). The formula for that, according to Margaret Deutsch, is for adult males: weight in pounds times 12; for females: weight in pounds times 11. Also, for every 10 years older than 20 one should lower the result by 2%. Next, understand that different programs work for different people. People tend to go by the fad when it comes to picking an exercise program. Do some shopping around to see which exercise is not only fit for you but also is something that you will enjoy. Aerobic exercise is an example. Aerobic exercise is exercise, which essentially uses aerobic pathways to provide energy to the muscles involved. It is sometimes called a â€Å"endurance exercise† which means that the heart rate is raised to 70 to 85% of your age predicted Maximum Heart Rate (MHR), and held at that point for a uninterrupted 20 to 30 minutes. Another example is weight-bearing exercises. This includes picking up weights that are a portion of your body weight. To remain in shape one does not have to do a lot of it but one should do some. It is important in any type of exercising to avoid injury to the body from stretching before exercising to wearing the correct clothing. Civilization tends to be aware of the former but ignore the latter. Sports bras are a common example of women hypocritingly exercising and at the same time injuring the body. Skin and ligaments (elastic connective tissue) provide a delicate support frame for the breasts that can be damaged by too much bouncing and stretching. There are two types of sports bras: compression bras and encapsulation, harness-type bras. The first works better for smaller breasted women because of the fit and the second tends to work better for larger women. When choosing the correct one for you take into account: the fit, how much support it is giving for the exercise that is going to be done, fabric (does it absorb moisture well), seams and stitching to avoid chaffing, and mobility. After taking all these into account one can be assured that he is well prepared for the exercise routine. In conclusion, all the factors mentioned above can lead to a less stressful life. Sleep can help the body relax to deal with everyday pressure. People who eat a diet low in refined carbohydrates, sugar and caffeine, and high in whole grains, have shown a greater ability to cope with stress as in contrast to those who consume the opposite. Exercise, as well, is a way to release stress and tension (i. e. running, kickboxing, stair stepping, etc. ). If one keeps all the factors in mind a healthier happier life can be achieved.

Technology and Plagiarism

Widespread technology and communication has made both plagiarism and the detection of it easier than ever before. In the competitive field of journalism, integrity and individuality plays a massive role. The ethics of writing in a world where writing is an exponentially growing area of work are essential. In the field of journalism, writers must act according to the subject’s code of ethics. â€Å"Truthfulness, accuracy, and objectivity† (Journalism Ethics and Standards) are important characteristics that each journalist must follow. A journalistic piece must meet these indisputable standards – after all, the main idea behind journalism is to deliver the truth. There have been many cases of misconduct and disobedience of the journalistic code of ethics in the past and recent future. Zachery Kouwe, a Times business reporter, was rightly accused of plagiarizing from The Wall Street Journal. After in-depth research into his other pieces of work, plagiarism was apparent in many of his works. The New York Times article called plagiarism a â€Å"journalistic sin† to emphasize the gravity of the issue. Another excellent example of a writer compromising his journalistic integrity can be seen in Billy Ray’s Shattered Glass (2003). This movie, based on a real life story, shows the life of a journalist who’s lost his way and his integrity. Stephen Glass, a former reporter for The New Republic, was caught for a serial fraud in his articles. He fabricated quotations, sources, descriptions, and events in his stories and was eventually fired when his deception came to light. Plagiarism is a common issue for those writers who have lost their integrity. In fair play, written works must be original and accredited. We have the opportunity to use insightful ideas from countless pieces of work. There are written works available in almost every thinkable subject – anywhere from linear algebra to dance ballet. The only requirement for contributing to and taking from the gigantic world of words is integrity. Upholding this honor is the only way to avoid fraud and plagiarism.

Major Accomplishments of Cartimandua, Brigantine Queen

In the mid-first century, the Romans were in the process of conquering Britain. In the north, extending into what is now Scotland, the Romans faced the Brigantes. Tacitus wrote of a queen leading one of the tribes within the larger group of tribes called the Brigantes. He described her as flourishing in all the splendor of wealth and power.  This was Cartimandua (about 47–69 CE), whose name includes the word for pony or small horse. In the face of the Roman conquests progress, Cartimandua decided to make peace with the Romans instead of confronting them.  She was thus allowed to continue to rule, now as a client-queen.   Some in a neighboring tribe within Cartimanduas territory in 48 C.E. attacked the Roman armies as they moved forward to conquer what is now Wales.  The Romans successfully resisted the attack, and the rebels, headed by Caractacus, asked for aid from Cartimandua.  Instead, she turned Caractacus over to the Romans. Caractactus was taken to Rome where Claudius spared his life. Cartimandua was married to Venutius but wielded power as a leader in her own right. A struggle for power among the Brigantes and even between Cartimandua and her husband broke out. Cartimandua asked for help from the Romans in regaining peace, and with the Roman legion behind her, she and her husband made peace. The Brigantes did not join the rebellion of  Boudicca  in 61 C.E., probably because of Cartimanduas leadership in maintaining good relations with the Romans. In 69 C.E., Cartimandua divorced her husband Venutius and married his charioteer or arms bearer.  The new husband then would have become king. But Venutius raised support and attacked, and, even with Roman assistance, Cartimandua couldnt put down the revolt. Venutius became king of the Brigantes and ruled it briefly as an independent kingdom. The Romans took Cartimandua and her new husband under their protection and removed them from her old kingdom.  Queen Cartimandua disappears from history. Soon the Romans moved in, defeated Venutius, and ruled the Brigantes directly. Importance of Cartimandua The importance of Cartimanduas story as part of Roman Britains history is that her position makes clear that in Celtic culture at the time, women were at least occasionally accepted as leaders and rulers. The story is also important as a contrast to Boudiccas.  In Cartimanduas case, she was able to negotiate a peace with the Romans and stay in power.  Boudicca failed  to continue her rule  and was defeated in battle because she rebelled and refused to submit to Roman authority. Archaeology In 1951–1952, Sir Mortimer Wheeler headed an excavation at Stanwick, North Yorks, in northern England.  The earthwork complex there has been studied again and dated to the late Iron Age in Britain, and new excavations and research were carried out 1981–2009, as reported by Colin Haselgrove for the Council of British Archaeology in 2015. Analysis continues and may reshape the understanding of the period.  Originally, Wheeler believed that the complex was the site of Venutius and that Cartimanduas center was to the south.  Today, more are concluding the site is that of Cartimanduas rule.
